Tip 10 - Bonus Weeks Bonus Weeks

In addition to your annual week, most resorts will allow owners to use the resort for additional days on a space available basis at a preferred rate. This is called bonus time and owners who can utilize mid week time and low season time will gain the most from this additional benefit. However, most management companies and resorts have strict limitations on renting bonus time for a profit.

Bonus time is to be used for owners as an additional benefit and can increase personal owner usage, but in most cases this usage does not apply to third party rental transactions. When the reservation is properly verified by your agent this week may be bounced by your resort for inappropriate use.

If your resort or management company does allow a third party rental transaction on bonus time here are some rental considerations:

1. Bonus time is not free. What is the cost?

2. Usually bonus time is space available only and the space available is usually mid or low time and/or partial weeks. What is the rental value?

3. In most cases when there is a surplus of bonus time, supply is high, demand is low and the rental revenue is sometimes lower than the cost of the week.

FINAL NOTE: BONUS TIME IS AN ADDITIONAL BENEFIT FOR PERSONAL TRAVEL BY THE OWNERS OF TIMESHARE. DUE TO THE NATURE OF BONUS TIME (SPACE AVAILABLE) IT VERY RARELY MAKES ECONOMIC SENSE TO RENT A BONUS WEEK.
